David vs. Goliath...Home Depot Truths

We all know how the old  story goes...the little guy takes out the giant with a slingshot.  In our case, going against Home Depot is much the  same. Except our slingshot is really a combination of: service, value, product selection, and even PRICE!!!

Home Depot is making efforts to reach contractors directly. But can they really do it better than Electrical Sales? The answer is a resounding NO!

There are some areas where a supply house just cannot compete. Let’s face it, Depot has BILLIONS of dollars to spend on 14-2 romex.  At any time, they may be $5-15 less per thousand. But what about the breakers, boxes, conduit, plates, and wiring devices?  Electrical Sales is constantly comparison shopping for you to make sure that you still SAVE $$$ when you buy the whole bundle from us. On average, including romex, the savings range from 10-25%.

There are also hidden costs to make that trip to the big box.  Fuel is a big one, time spent in line, finding parking etc. This is all valuable time that should be billed to the customer.

Why stick with Electrical Sales???

Sales: Hands down, no one in this industry provides better customer service than us. Our counter, inside and outside sales staff is the most professional around.  We constantly get referrals from other distributors who simply do not want to research tough items or solve your problems.

Services: Emergency deliveries, 78 Express, Notary, Credit, project bids, application engineering...FREE!  Our warehouse/delivery crew is the best we’ve ever had, and it shows.

Inventory:  What are we without product, and the RIGHT product? Nothing - that’s why we have more stock than ever, over $1.5 million. That’s more than many larger competitors.

It all adds up in the end. Home Depot simply cannot replace the value we add as your supply house.  It’s highly unlikely that ABC Contractor can call up the CEO of Depot to ask for another 30 days dating or get a last minute quote on a gear package.  You can do all that and more with Electrical Sales.  At the end of the day, it’s a pretty simple deal.  We just do whatever it takes to make your job easier.  As Don our owner likes to say, “It’s not rocket science.”

COPPER AND STEEL INFLATION!!!

After a rollercoaster year in 2005, copper is on the move again.  After dipping slightly to open 2006, we have seen a 30% increase in wire prices in the last week.

According to all the manufacturer’s experts, copper is now tracking the same as gasoline - a very scary idea.

Oil has reached $74 a barrel as we write this, and raw copper from around the world is also hitting all-time highs.

Shown in the chart to the left, the trend does not look good for keeping wire costs down.

Companies in our industry such as Cerro, Encore, Southwire, Alflex all seem to be raising prices at about the same time.  This means that everything from romex to MC to lugs will increase.

If you are bidding any projects with more than a 2-3 week lead time to ordering copper products, please be aware that those prices may increase at delivery.  Please help by informing your generals, homeowners, etc. of the volatility in these items.

Electrical Sales will always try to minimize the impact on our customers by buying smartly and making large investments when costs drop.

With summer fast approaching, look out for a bumpy ride with commodities!!

Oem Corner

 

It’s a well kept industry secret in some cases, but Electrical Sales is becoming one of the County’s largest industrial  and OEM distributors. 

 

We are very happy to announce a new program with Eaton/Cutler Hammer called the OEM Channel Partner.

This program will allow us to deliver our customer deeper discounts out of stock without special pricing agreements.

Eaton has also announced a new line of XB Terminal Blocks to complement their control offering.  Please call your salesperson for more info.

 

Electrical Sales is also making a name in the enclosure business.  Since adding Wiegmann enclosures to our line card, it has taken off.  We can now provide an enclosure for any application: modular, stainless, fiber, plus any custom mods necessary.

Inventory Fire Sale!!!

With 10,000 different items on the shelf, some products are bound to sit around and collect dust...and that costs us $$$!

 

So, to clean out some of our shelf space, we have started our Inventory Closeout program.  We will constantly be putting these closeout items out at the counter so that you can pick through them.

Now the good part...you can buy these items for cost or even below cost.
